LPG cylinders are manufactured in compliance with the Philippine National Standard 03-1:2000. These are designed and constructed in various types depending on their storage capacities. Each type has its targeted market for efficient and convenient use.

Types of Cylinder valves:
  • Snap-on  - these types of valves are of self-enclosing or spring-loaded type wherein the valve is held on its seat by a spring and opened by a regulator's spindle pushing the valve down
  •  Pol-valve - is a screw type valve which is opened or closed manually by turning the hand wheel and they have a side outlet.
 Parts of cylinder and functions:
Collar - designed to protect the valve and for ease of handling.
Collar plates - contain all details about the cylinder i.e. owner, manufacturer, date of  manufacture, design code, serial number etc.
Upper/lower cup - is the top part of the cylinder while the underneath part is called the lower cap.
Footring - provides stability to the cylinder. It should be sufficiently strong becauuse it carries the weight of the whole cylinder and its the part most exposed to corrosion. Vent holes on the footring prevents moisture from being trapped underneath which may become the source of       corrosion.
Neck ring - provides a suitable connection for the cylinder valve.
According to Philippine National Standard 03-1:2000, the following markings should be found on a LPG cylinder prior to purchase. These information must be permanently etched or stamped on the collar.
  •  Embossed markings of the brand name or name of the owner.
  • Manufacturer's registered trade name or brand name, trademark and business name.
  • Name and address of the importer in the Philippines (for imported cylinders).
  • Specific standard used date tested (hydrostatic, leak mechanical, etc.).
  • Thickness of the steel used in mm.
  • The cylinder capacity shall be indicated as water capacity in liters, tare weight in kg.
  • Design and test pressure in Mpa.
  • Serial number or code number
  • "Made in Philippines" or country of manufacture, if imported.
  • PS (Philippine Standard) or ICC (Imported Commodity Clearance) mark.
Safety tips:

  • A gas cooker/furnace is the lowest energy consuming tool for cooking. The flames ensure a direct warming of your pans. Therefore you will control the cooking process in the best way.
  • Cook as much as possible with a lid. Cooking without a lid consumes three times more energy.
  •  Heating water with LPG will use almost half of the energy vs. heating with electricity
  •  Use as little water as possible during cooking.  Because what you do not use, you do not need to heat up.
  • LPG  will cause natural rubber and some plastics to deteriorate. Only use hoses and other equipment specifically designed for LPG.
